Riku Pääkkönen is the founder of the legendary rock and metal label Spinefarm Records, which put Finnish metal music on the map in the late 90s with bands like Nightwish and Children of Bodom; expanding later on to sign also international acts such as Killing Joke and Five Finger Death Punch. Over the 30+ years operating in the industry, Pääkkönen has worked with many aspiring artists and introduced new talent to both local and international markets. Today he continues the journey with Ranka Kustannus, an independent record and publishing company, which he originally founded in 1998 and revived back to business in 2013. Throughout the years the label has had a diverse artist roster – including bands like Blind Channel, Cyan Kicks, Arion, Altamullan Road and Fear of Domination – the main focus being on releasing music with vision.
Pääkkönen is the Chairman of IndieCo Ry (association for Finnish indie labels) and a member of the board of Music Finland and IMPALA – Independent Music Companies Association.
